Todd Adkison has driven financial and organizational improvements in businesses for nearly 30 years. After beginning his career at a Big Five accounting firm, he built his own successful CPA practice, which he led for 12 years before transitioning into his first CFO role. He has spent nearly a decade as a CFO, delivering demonstrated improvements in both financial results and operational efficiency to three different firms.
Todd’s work at AvinnaCFO is focused on increasing the value of his clients’ businesses, often in the context of executing a major transition. Whether this means setting up a new financial structure, creating a mutually amenable succession plan, or preparing for an acquisition or sale, Todd’s experience and steady hand are vital in guiding clients through evolutions that leave them in a stronger position.
In addition to his CPA designation, Todd holds a master’s degree in Tax Accounting from the University of Alabama, as well as a bachelor’s degree in in Accounting from Auburn University. He enjoys life outside the office where he is an enthusiastic fisherman and avid aviator.
For more than two decades, businesses have benefited from Michael Livengood’s financial and strategic leadership. After starting in accounting, he embarked on his first controller position in 2005 — a role he filled for a variety of firms over the next 10 years. In 2015, Michael was promoted to vice president of Business Development where he led several successful acquisitions for the Marmon Group (a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway).
Today Michael uses his vast financial and operational experience along with his passion for value creation to advise AvinnaCFO’s clients.
Michael holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from the Manderson School of Business at the University of Alabama and a bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In addition to his CPA designation, he also achieved certification in business data analytics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
He actively serves his community as a youth baseball and soccer coach and an undergraduate professor at a small community college. Michael stays active by running (including finishing a marathon) and backpacking (including the Andes mountains in Peru).
With degrees in economics and law and a master’s degree in real estate from Cornell University, Brett Mendell could easily be labeled as the classic go-getter. For the past 20-plus years, he’s been putting his wide range of expertise to use across multiple industries.
He started his career with a Big Five accounting firm, providing state and local tax consulting to large and quickly-growing companies. He eventually shifted into commercial litigation before landing in real estate, where he served small but growing real estate clients from Georgia to California. Brett eventually transitioned into the business side of commercial real estate—he even spent two years in New York City helping to build a real estate startup—before moving to the South to join a growing regional multifamily real estate company. Since then, he has helped build an asset management platform, implemented new revenue management and business intelligence software and processes, help grow an asset management team, and transition a company from a merchant builder to an institutional real estate platform.
When not working to build real estate portfolios, Brett can typically be found spending time with his wife and two boys. An avid soccer fan, he often dreams of getting his boys into the English Premier League.
